Below are the Frequently Asked Questions about our False Tails & Wraps.
If you have a question that's not answered below then
send us an
email - we're here to help.

How do I take a sample for colour matching ?
Take your sample from the middle of your horse's tail. This often a different colour to that of the outside of the tail as it doesn't become bleached from sun exposure.
Take 6 to 8 hairs that are a good representation of the colour to be matched (preferrable no shorter than 75mm).
Sellotape these to a piece of paper with your name and contact details etc and send it to us (refer to our Contact Us page for our postal address)

What length tail do I need ?
The length you require depends entirely on what "look" you are after.  Show hacks and ponies tend to have "banged" tails (cut straight off at the bottom) and tend to have thier tails around the hock height.

A western horse and some breeds are shown with a more natural flowing look and like an uncut to ground length.

How do I measure the tail ?
You will need to measure from the bottom of the horse's dock (the bone part of the tail) down to where you would like the tail to end.

We will ensure that you are sent a tail at least that minimum length.

How do they attach ?
We have a simple but very effective way to attach our Finishing Touch false tails using a  loop that is sewn in the false tail.  When fitting the tail to the horse this loop is then attached to the original tail with a plait.  In our "tripple" thick tails we have two loops fitted so that the weight of the false tail can be distributed over a larger area on your horse's tail.

See our How to Fit page for detailed step-by-step instructions on how to fit the tails (an instruction sheet is also sent with each tail).

How are they constructed ?
Finishing Touch tails are individually handmade. No glue, No bands, No metal. They are hand sewn using rot resistant thread. Each tail is also fitted with a tab in to the centre so they may be added to at a later date if you wish to increase the thickness.
